Catholic Church urged to remain impartial and defend human dignity

Mark Chona, a Catholic layman, has issued a fraternal appeal to the Catholic Church to renew its prophetic and pastoral mission. He urged the institution to stand firmly for justice, unity, peace, and the dignity of all human beings.

Chona expressed concern that certain sections of Church leadership may be departing from foundational values by appearing selective in defending citizens' rights. He emphasized that the Church must defend every individual without fear or favor, regardless of political affiliation, ethnicity, social status, or proximity to power. He warned that perceived favoritism risks deepening divisions within communities and weakening the moral leadership of the Church.

Additionally, Chona called for the Church to provide consistent counsel on national respect for leaders and fellow citizens, teaching both truth and charity. He advocated for impartial prayer that includes both those in authority and those in opposition, suggesting that prayer should serve to restrain reckless speech and remind citizens of their highest allegiance to God.
