Catholic communities hold Blue Masses for first responders
Catholic communities in Texas and Delaware held Blue Masses to honor first responders, including law enforcement, firefighters, and paramedics. These services, held on the feast day of the three archangels, serve to provide spiritual support and recognition for those in civic defense roles.
In Arlington, Texas, the Catholic Diocese of Fort Worth hosted its inaugural Blue Mass at St. Maria Goretti Catholic Church. Bishop Michael F. Olson led the service, drawing parallels between the roles of the archangels—Michael the protector, Raphael the healer, and Gabriel the messenger—and the duties of first responders. The event also recognized the diocese’s Guardian Ministry, a volunteer security group.
In Wilmington, Delaware, Holy Cross Parish held its annual Blue Mass at St. John the Beloved. During the service, Deacon Vince Pisano, a former police officer, delivered a homily emphasizing the responsibility of protecting the public and the importance of maintaining community trust. The Mass was attended by various state, county, and local officers and emergency personnel.
