Catholic communities in New York City expand outreach and historical reflection
Catholic communities in New York City are engaging in diverse outreach efforts to connect with specific demographics. In Manhattan, several pastors reported a surge in young adult attendance and enrollment in the Order of Christian Initiation of Adults. These leaders attributed the growth to spiritual practices such as daily confession, Eucharistic adoration, and the influence of the National Eucharistic Revival.
Separately, the organization Outreach led a three-day pilgrimage through New York City to explore LGBTQ+ Catholic history. Led by Jesuit Fr. James Martin, the journey focused on themes of suffering and perseverance, visiting sites related to the HIV/AIDS crisis and the Stonewall riots to reflect on the intersection of faith and LGBTQ+ identity.
