Catholic Diocese locates suspended priest at Ghana police training centre

The Catholic Diocese of Konongo-Mampong has located Rev. Fr. Samuel Adapore at the Police Training Centre in Koforidua, Ghana, following his indefinite suspension from priestly ministry.

Bishop John Opoku-Agyemang issued a suspension a divinis on August 24, 2026, after Fr. Adapore allegedly abandoned his pastoral duties at the St. Anthony of Padua Rectorate in Nkwantakese without permission. The Diocese stated that the priest had removed his personal effects and blocked all attempts at contact, leaving both the church and his family unable to determine his whereabouts.

The Diocese clarified that Fr. Adapore decided on his “own and singular volition” to enlist as a private person in the training programme to join the Ghana Police Service. This announcement follows public criticism regarding the canonical basis of the suspension and whether the Diocese had sufficiently attempted to ensure the priest's welfare before taking disciplinary action.
