Catholic leaders in Nigeria call for virtuous leadership and service
Catholic leaders in Nigeria have issued calls for virtuous leadership and sacrificial service within the clergy.
In Abuja, Archbishop Ignatius Ayau Kaigama addressed the need for responsible leadership ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 elections. He emphasized that Christian leadership should prioritize the common good, accountability, and service over personal interest, power, or privilege. Kaigama urged citizens to choose leaders who embody Christian virtues and wisdom.
In Makurdi, Archbishop Salvatore Cordileone of San Francisco presided over the ordination of 14 new priests for the Diocese of Makurdi. He encouraged the new clergy to act as ‘friends and fathers’ to their congregations, modeling their ministry on Christ’s sacrificial love and acting solely in the best interests of the people they serve.
