Catholic priest Lino Zatelli dies in Trento, Italy

Lino Zatelli, a 75-year-old Catholic priest, was found dead in Trento, Italy, on August 12. He was discovered in his residence by a sacristan after failing to appear for Mass at the Church of San Carlo Borromeo.

The death occurred following a diocesan reorganization that required Zatelli to transfer from the parish where he had served for nearly 25 years. Zatelli had reportedly expressed his distress regarding the move, stating to parishioners, “I never asked to leave.” Although a petition with several hundred signatures was organized to allow him to remain, the transfer plan was set to proceed.

The incident has prompted discussions regarding the emotional well-being, isolation, and support systems available to elderly clergy members.
