Catholic priest Luis Fernando Valdés offers five godparenting tips

Mexican priest Father Luis Fernando Valdés, a doctorate holder in theology, explained the spiritual role of godparents and confirmation sponsors. In an interview with ACI Prensa, the priest said the primary mission is to help the godchild grow in faith, describing it as nurturing a new life rooted in the encounter with Christ.

He outlined five recommendations: understand the godparent’s mission; ensure personal spiritual formation before guiding others; build one’s life on the four pillars of the Catechism—doctrine, sacraments, moral life, and prayer; serve as a living example of Christian living; and maintain ongoing support for the godchild’s faith journey.
