Annunciation Catholic Church shooting anniversary marked in Minneapolis
One year after the deadly shooting at Annunciation Catholic Church and School in Minneapolis, the community is marking the anniversary with a Day of Service and Remembrance. The attack, which occurred on August 27, 2025, during an all-school Mass, claimed the lives of 8-year-old Fletcher Marks and 10-year-old Harper Moyski. Approximately 30 people were injured in the incident.
A new 2,600-page law enforcement report has been released, detailing the police response and the investigation into the shooter, 23-year-old Robin Westman. Westman, a former student, died at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound after firing through the church's stained-glass windows. Minneapolis Police Chief Brian O’Hara noted that the tragedy might have been more severe if the church doors had not been locked, as the shooter had reportedly planned to barricade the exits.
The incident has prompted Catholic school officials nationwide to re-evaluate safety and security protocols, particularly regarding the vulnerability of school Masses. In Minneapolis, the city is hosting events at Pearl Park to honor the victims through community service and tributes.
