Catholic teachings highlight the hidden treasure of the Kingdom of God
Two recent Catholic homilies reflected on Jesus' parable of the hidden treasure. Father Joseph‑Marie Verlinde’s 2008 sermon described a farmer who discovers a concealed treasure in a field and chooses to sell everything to claim it, interpreting the treasure as the Kingdom of Heaven rather than material wealth.
In a July 26 meditation at Castel Gandolfo, the Pope referenced the same parable from Matthew 13, calling Jesus Christ “the hidden treasure” and urging believers to recognize the Kingdom as a priceless pearl that calls all people to renewal. Both pieces emphasized that true discipleship may require abandoning worldly possessions to gain the eternal reward.
