Catholic University of Ghana VC calls for private university funding
Prof. Matthew Glover Addo, Vice-Chancellor of the Catholic University of Ghana (CUG), has urged the government to establish a dedicated fund for private tertiary institutions. Speaking at the university’s 25th Congregation and 38th Matriculation Ceremony in Fiapre, Prof. Addo warned that current government support schemes for first-year students in public universities could negatively impact enrolment at private institutions.
He argued that if government policy prioritizes public universities without a matching support plan for the private sector, private institutions will be forced to rely solely on their own resources. Prof. Addo emphasized the need for a comprehensive national tertiary education development agenda that includes both public and private institutions to ensure the stability of the sector and the continued production of skilled professionals for national development.
