Catholic University of South Sudan holds historic graduation in Yambio

The Catholic University of South Sudan (CUoSS) held its third graduation ceremony at the St. John’s Yambio Campus, marking a historic milestone for Western Equatoria State. At least 46 students graduated with degrees in fields including education, economics, and business administration.

Bishop Eduardo Hiiboro Kussala of the Catholic Diocese of Tombura-Yambio described the event as a significant moment for the region, noting that the university provides essential higher education access to local youth and professionals who would otherwise need to travel to Juba or Nairobi. Dr. Alela Oguto, Director of the Yambio Campus, emphasized that this graduation is only the beginning of the institution's efforts to strengthen higher education in the area.

The university is affiliated with the Catholic University of Eastern Africa in Nairobi and represents a long-standing goal for the region, with roots tracing back to discussions regarding a Catholic university in Sudan as early as 1983.
