CATL Debrecen battery plant cuts energy use amid Hungary drought

The CATL Debrecen battery‑cell plant, which has not yet started production, is preparing temporary measures to lower its water and electricity consumption in response to a severe drought and a Hungarian government initiative to curb industrial resource use. Although the plant’s current consumption is already low, the company is working with utility providers to be able to implement immediate actions if needed.

Planned steps focus on non‑production loads, such as suspending temperature control in unused rooms, raising temperature limits in logistics buildings, rescheduling certain manufacturing processes and optimizing high‑energy equipment. CATL says these actions will help ensure a continuous power supply for households and will be communicated publicly once finalized.
