CATL highlights battery durability and global expansion
CATL, the world's largest manufacturer of electric vehicle batteries, is highlighting the long-term durability of its lithium iron phosphate (LFP) technology. Data from a national wind, solar, and storage demonstration project in Zhangbei, Hebei province, shows that CATL's LFP cells maintained 85% capacity after 14 years of operation. The company reports that no cells required replacement during the project's lifespan and estimates they could provide another 10 years of service in auxiliary systems.
Headquartered in Ningde, Fujian province, CATL has transformed its home city into a global battery manufacturing hub. The company currently holds a significant global market share, with SNE Research attributing a 39.9% share to CATL between January and July 2026. To expand its international footprint, CATL is establishing production facilities in Europe, including operations in Germany and Hungary, and a planned gigafactory in Spain in partnership with Stellantis.
