CATL unveils Shenxing 3 ultra-fast charging LFP battery

CATL, the world's largest electric vehicle battery manufacturer, has unveiled the Shenxing 3, a third-generation lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery capable of a full charge in 6 minutes and 27 seconds. Presented during the Super Technology Day in Beijing, the battery aims to overcome the traditional trade-off between rapid charging speeds and battery longevity.

According to Chief Scientist Wu Kai, the company's strategy for LFP chemistry is shifting from increasing energy density to maximizing charging and discharging speeds. This development positions LFP, traditionally viewed as a budget-friendly and slower-charging chemistry, as a high-performance option for extreme charging needs. The announcement included several other innovations, such as the third-generation Qilin battery and the Naxtra sodium battery.
