Pet travel trends show rise in dog-friendly camping and cabin flight options

Trends in pet travel show an increasing number of owners bringing dogs on vacations. Data from the camper platform PaulCamper indicates that dogs accompany approximately 13% of couple trips and 11% of family trips.

In Germany, camping remains a popular option for pet owners due to the access to nature. Among those traveling with dogs, approximately 40% use motorhomes and 40% use camper vans, while 16% use traditional caravans. About 27% of all vehicles booked on PaulCamper are explicitly designated as pet-friendly.

Regarding air travel, most airlines like Lufthansa and Condor currently only allow small dogs (typically under eight kilograms) in the cabin within a carrier. However, a European airline has reportedly begun allowing larger and heavier dogs to fly in the cabin, a change from the previous standard where larger animals were required to travel in the cargo hold.
