Cattle Australia reviews grass-fed cattle transaction levy

Cattle Australia has launched a nationwide review of the $5 per head grass-fed cattle transaction levy, the first such discussion in twenty years. The review aims to evaluate various funding models and how collected revenue is allocated across research, marketing, biosecurity, residue testing, and emergency responses.

During a consultation in Longreach, producers raised concerns regarding the current distribution of funds. Specifically, questions were directed at the $3.66 portion of the levy currently directed toward MLA marketing, much of which supports international programs. Growers discussed whether a greater emphasis on domestic spending could better influence consumption and purchasing decisions, noting the potential role of social media influencers in the market.
