Caturus to nearly double Commonwealth LNG capacity in Louisiana

Caturus LLC has announced a major expansion for its Commonwealth LNG export facility in Cameron Parish, Louisiana. The proposed five-train, 7.75 million tonnes per annum (Mtpa) project would nearly double the site’s planned capacity to approximately 17.25 Mtpa. This expansion follows a recent $9.75 billion final investment decision on the initial six-train, 9.5 Mtpa facility, which is currently under construction with operations targeted for 2030.

The announcement coincides with the Gastech 2026 conference in Bangkok and the G20 Energy Abundance Ministerial in Houston. During these industry gatherings, energy experts and officials have increasingly characterized natural gas as a ‘pillar of resilience’ for the global economy, noting its role in meeting rising power demands from data centers and AI that renewables alone may not satisfy.

Caturus CEO David Lawler stated that the expansion aims to provide greater flexibility and certainty for global buyers seeking reliable energy to support industrial growth. The expansion project is expected to enter service in the early 2030s, following the commencement of the base project operations.
