Vietnam implements new traffic lane regulations on Cau Gie-Cao Bo expressway
The Vietnam Road Administration is reorganizing traffic on the Cau Gie-Cao Bo expressway to improve flow and efficiency. Starting October 20, 2026, new lane regulations will be enforced to prevent slow-moving vehicles from occupying high-speed lanes.
Under the new scheme, Lane 1 (adjacent to the median) will be designated as the high-speed lane, with a maximum speed of 100 km/h and a minimum of 80 km/h. Buses with more than 29 seats and trucks weighing over 7.5 tons are prohibited from staying in this lane and may only use it for overtaking before returning to Lane 2.
Lane 2 will have a maximum speed of 100 km/h and a minimum of 60 km/h. Authorities aim to resolve issues where slow vehicles occupy the leftmost lanes, which has previously hindered road capacity and caused frustration for other drivers. Signage and road markings are currently being finalized to support the transition.
