Cauquenes Municipal Council terminates parking contract over unpaid debts
The Cauquenes Municipal Council has approved the early and unilateral termination of a parking concession contract with Ecoparking SpA. The decision follows repeated failures by the company to meet mandatory monthly payments and the accumulation of unpaid fines, which have impacted municipal funds.
According to the municipal transit director, Cristian Musa, the company failed to deposit the required $10,500,000 within the first five business days of July, August, and September. Additionally, the firm has not paid over $6.7 million in municipal fines. While the company cited operational force majeure due to user evasion and the macroeconomic environment, the municipality rejected these claims, stating that evasion is an inherent risk of the concession.
The termination is expected to result in the temporary loss of employment for approximately 30 local workers.
