Cautiva series reaches 500,000 viewers in Argentina

The Argentine series ‘Cautiva’ has surpassed half a million viewers, reaching the top of the on-demand ranking on its streaming platforms. Directed by Paula Hernández and Jazmín Stuart, the production is a psychological thriller and drama inspired by the real-life case of Silvia Albarenque.

The story is set in a cloistered convent in Nogoyá, Entre Ríos, and follows a 18-year-old woman, portrayed by Carolina Kopelioff, who enters the convent to dedicate her life to faith but instead endures fifteen years of physical and psychological abuse at the hands of the mother superior, played by Lorena Vega. The series explores themes of power dynamics and the reconstruction of life following trauma.

The real-life case involved a teenager in 1999 who spent 14 years in the convent and subsequently reported mistreatment by the prioress of the Discalced Carmelites, who was convicted by the justice system.
