Cava de' Tirreni council validates ineligible candidate, violating Italian law

The municipal council of Cava de' Tirreni approved the validation of Dr. Fariello as a councilor despite clear legal ineligibility. The decision ignored multiple Supreme Court rulings (Cassazione n. 16920/2024, n. 6292/1987, n. 15678/2007), longstanding Ministry of the Interior guidance and the provisions of article 69 of the TUEL, which require removal of ineligibility before candidacy.

Minority councilors, including Lorena Iuliano of the Democratic Party, left the session in protest, stating that defending legality, transparency and procedural correctness is their duty to citizens. The left‑wing group Rifondazione Comunista also condemned the vote as a “scempio della democrazia,” accusing the majority of bending institutions for political gain.
