Cava de' Tirreni man arrested for suspected ISIS-linked terrorism

A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Cava de' Tirreni, Italy, on terrorism charges following an investigation into his alleged ties to the Islamic State. Italian authorities state the individual was planning to carry out an attack.

Intelligence monitoring of online activities revealed the suspect had been conducting searches related to weapons, explosives, and jihadist propaganda. During a search of his residence, investigators seized two pistols, 107 rounds of ammunition, two knives, and a 50-centimeter katana.

Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi commended the State Police and intelligence services, noting that the operation highlights the complexity of radicalization occurring online. Deputy Imma Vietri of Fratelli d'Italia also praised the effectiveness of the preventive measures taken by security apparatuses to intercept the threat.
