Cava de’ Tirreni nears entry into Amalfi Coast DMO
The governance of the Amalfi Coast's tourism is facing a potential shift as Cava de’ Tirreni nears an agreement to join the Amalfi Coast Destination Management Organization (DMO). This move follows a strategic political alignment between the mayors of Amalfi and Cava de’ Tirreni, aimed at integrating the city into the coast's primary promotional circuits.
However, the proposal has sparked debate regarding regional regulations and local impact. Because Campania regional guidelines prohibit dual membership in destination management organizations, Cava de’ Tirreni would have to withdraw from its current affiliation with the Salerno Destination DMO.
Critics have raised concerns regarding sustainability, the potential for increased 'hit-and-run' tourism pressure on the SS163 highway, and the difficulty of applying UNESCO cultural landscape protections to an urban and commercial center. These issues are expected to be central to the upcoming Mayors' Conference scheduled for September 15 in Erchie.
