Cava harvest season begins in Spain amid shifting climate patterns

The Cava harvest season is underway in Spain, marked by both cultural celebrations and shifting agricultural timelines. The Association of Cava Producers (AECAVA) has launched the eleventh edition of ‘La Verema del Cava’, running from August 28 to September 19. The initiative features approximately 20 activities across 16 wineries in the Penedès and Conca de Barberà regions, including grape treading, tastings, and guided tours.

In Pobla de Cérvoles, the winery Mas Blanch i Jové has reported its earliest harvest in twenty years. The grape harvest began approximately three weeks earlier than usual, a shift attributed to an exceptionally hot summer affecting the ripening cycle. The winery is currently harvesting the Trobat variety, with Viognier, Garnatxa Blanca, and Macabeu expected to follow. Despite the accelerated timeline, the winery anticipates an excellent quality harvest with a production exceeding 80,000 kilograms.
