Cavalcante offers nature tourism via the Caminho de Santana trail
The Caminho de Santana is a 78-kilometer trail located in Cavalcante, Goiás, that traverses various landscapes within the Chapada dos Veadeiros region. The route, which can be completed in up to eight days, begins and ends at the Matriz de Sant’Ana Church square in the historic center of Cavalcante.
The trail passes through the Rio das Almas basin and connects 11 protected areas, including the Chapada dos Veadeiros National Park—a UNESCO World Heritage site—the Pouso Alto Environmental Protection Area, and several Private Natural Heritage Reserves (RPPNs).
Visitors to the trail can experience the biodiversity of the Cerrado biome, observing local flora, fauna, and geological formations. The region is also noted for its numerous waterfalls, such as Santa Bárbara, Capivara, and Candaru, as well as natural formations like the Ponte de Pedra over the Rio São Domingos.
