Caxias do Sul announces R$ 4 million restoration for Galópolis historic building
The city of Caxias do Sul has published a public notice for the restoration and modernization of a historic building in Galópolis. The site, which formerly housed the social headquarters of the Círculo Operário Ismael Chaves Barcelos near Duque de Caxias Square, is slated for a total investment of R$ 4 million.
The project is a partnership between the Rio Grande do Sul State Tourism Secretariat and the Caxias do Sul City Hall, funded through the state’s ‘Programa Avançar no Turismo’. The works aim to preserve the building’s historical characteristics while adapting the space for new uses in tourism, culture, gastronomy, and entertainment.
Galópolis is a region known for its late 19th-century Italian immigrant heritage and textile industry history. A public bidding session for the works is scheduled for October 16, with the contract expected to be awarded based on the lowest price criterion.
