Cayman Islands Government commits to affordable housing reforms

The Cayman Islands Government has committed to the continued implementation of housing reforms following a report from the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) regarding affordable housing access. The OAG report, released on August 31, 2026, noted that rising housing costs are driven by complex economic and demographic pressures common to many jurisdictions.

In response to these challenges, the Government developed a Public and Affordable Housing Policy and a 10-Year Strategic Plan in 2025. The audit, which reviewed the period from 2019 to 2024, recognized the extensive stakeholder engagement used to inform the strategy, including consultations with over 1,000 residents and 120 key stakeholders. The report noted that implementation of the new housing policy has already commenced in several areas and recommended that the Government continue to follow the established framework.
