Brazilian football: CBF sets tournament dates and clubs face regulatory shifts

The Brazilian football landscape is seeing significant scheduling and regulatory shifts. The CBF has finalized the semifinals for the 2026 Copa do Brasil, with matches set for early November between Palmeiras vs. Vasco and Grêmio vs. Atlético-MG. The tournament final will be a single match held on December 6 in Brasília.

In the Campeonato Brasileiro Série B, CRB secured a dominant 3-0 victory over Cuiabá, moving within one point of the G-6 playoff zone. Cuiabá's performance was reportedly hindered by a viral gastroenteritis outbreak affecting 11 players and staff members. Meanwhile, Criciúma also maintained its position in the G-6 following a 3-0 win over Avaí.

Off the pitch, Flamengo President Luiz Eduardo Baptista expressed concerns regarding the financial impact of a recent government provisional measure banning betting houses (bets) in Brazil. He noted that the loss of sponsorship revenue could jeopardize major financial commitments, including player contracts. Additionally, discussions continue regarding CBF proposals to reduce the limit of foreign players in Brazilian leagues starting in 2027.
