CBF launches national project to scout female goalkeepers
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has launched ‘Em Busca da Camisa 1’, a new initiative designed to identify, train, and monitor young female goalkeepers across Brazil. The project aims to address a shortage of talent in the position caused by historical lack of investment in youth academies and a scarcity of specialized coaches.
The program will target girls born between 2009 and 2015 in the U-12, U-14, and U-16 categories. Over the coming months, the CBF will hold regional events in all five regions of the country, involving approximately 120 young athletes and providing workshops for about 20 goalkeeper trainers. The goal is to reach more than 1,200 young players by June 2027, ahead of the Women's World Cup.
National team goalkeeper coach Edson Junior will play a central role in evaluating the athletes. The first stage of the project is scheduled to take place between October 30 and November 2 in Americana, São Paulo, in partnership with the São Paulo State Football Federation.
