CBF launches organ donation campaign during Brasileirão
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), in partnership with the Pró-Rim Foundation, is launching the ‘Um Sim pela Vida’ campaign during the 27th round of the Brasileirão Série A. The initiative aims to encourage families to discuss organ donation, a critical step since Brazilian law requires family authorization for the donation of organs and tissues from deceased individuals.
Data from the National Transplant System indicates that nearly 50,000 people in Brazil are currently on waiting lists for organs, with approximately 46,000 specifically awaiting kidney transplants. A major obstacle to increasing transplant numbers is the family refusal rate, which the Ministry of Health reports is around 45%.
The campaign will be visible across all ten matches of the round, spanning from the Coritiba vs. Athletico-PR match in Curitiba to the Bahia vs. Remo match in Salvador. The Pró-Rim Foundation, which operates in Santa Catarina and Tocantins, has already performed over 2,100 kidney transplants, primarily serving patients from the Unified Health System (SUS).
