CBF proposes new daytime schedule for Brazil's top football leagues

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) held a meeting in Rio de Janeiro with club representatives from Serie A and Serie B to discuss reforms to the Brasileirão calendar. Based on an internal study of matches from 2023‑2025, the CBF plans to eliminate weekday 19:00 fixtures and Sunday night games after 20:00, which have shown lower attendance. It aims to expand daytime slots, including a stronger emphasis on 11:00 a.m. Sunday matches, and to reduce scheduling conflicts between the two divisions. The changes are intended to increase stadium attendance, improve television visibility and make the competition more attractive to sponsors, with pilot testing expected during the 2026 World Cup break.

The proposal also seeks to prioritize the traditional 16:00 Sunday slot, balance broadcasters' interests, and align the league’s timing with international markets, particularly Europe.
