CBF tests body cameras for football referees
The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has begun testing RefCam, a body camera technology designed to capture match footage from the referee's perspective. The trials are taking place during the 6th PRO Refereeing Seminar at Granja Comary in Teresópolis, Rio de Janeiro.
The technology, which gained prominence during the 2026 World Cup, is integrated into the refereeing team's communication system. The CBF aims to use the footage to increase transparency in officiating protocols and provide fans with a first-person view of plays and goals.
Beyond the spectator experience, Netto Góes, the CBF's Director of Refereeing, stated that the recordings will be used to analyze referee positioning and encourage more disciplined on-field conduct. The equipment will also serve as a training tool, allowing officials to review their movements and identify areas for technical improvement. While testing is underway, an official implementation date for national competitions has not yet been set.
