CBI arrests two in 11.42 crore rupee Gujarat ‘digital arrest’ fraud case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested two individuals, Himanshu Prasad and Yunis Biswas, in connection with a ‘digital arrest’ fraud case in Gujarat involving 11.42 crore rupees. The investigation revealed that the suspects played a role in receiving, layering, and transferring illicit funds through various accounts to conceal the money trail.

Under ‘Operation Chakra-6’, the CBI conducted simultaneous searches across 22 locations in 10 states to combat cybercrime syndicates. In this specific case, victims were allegedly held under ‘digital arrest’ for three months by criminals impersonating police and Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) officials, coercing them into transferring the funds.

Authorities seized digital devices, banking documents, and account records during the raids. Forensic analysis of these materials is ongoing to uncover the broader financial and technical infrastructure of these cross-state digital arrest syndicates.
