CBI files closure report in Patna NEET student death case

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the case of a NEET student's suspicious death in Patna, stating it found insufficient evidence to charge any individual. The student, a resident of Jehanabad, was found unconscious in her room at the Shambhu Girls Hostel on January 6, 2026, and passed away during treatment on January 11.

Despite forensic findings that included physical injuries and the presence of sperm on the student's clothing, the CBI reported that DNA testing of approximately 30 individuals yielded no matches. The agency concluded that there was no actionable evidence to identify a perpetrator.

In response to the closure report, the victim's mother has approached the special POCSO court seeking justice. The court has issued a notice to the student's father, and a hearing is scheduled for October 13, 2026, to consider the agency's findings.
