Armstrong murder case: CBI launches investigation and inspector held for extortion

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has officially launched a formal inquiry into the murder of Bahujan Samaj leader Armstrong, who was killed in Chennai on July 5, 2024. Following a petition by the victim's brother and a Supreme Court ruling, the CBI registered a First Information Report (FIR) against eight individuals under five different sections. The investigation, led by Additional Inspector R. Ravi, aims to uncover the true motives and conspiracy behind the killing.

In a related development involving the same case, a police inspector named Pugari has been remanded to three days of police custody. Pugari is accused of extorting 40 lakh rupees from a businessman, Akhil Kumar, by threatening him with arrest in connection with the Armstrong murder case. The inspector has been suspended from duty, and authorities are investigating whether other individuals were involved in the extortion scheme.
