CBP officer Luis Uribe faces trial for sexual assault and robbery

A federal trial has commenced for Luis Uribe, a 45-year-old U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer accused of sexually assaulting and robbing four Chinese women in the Chicago suburbs during 2022.

Prosecutors allege that while stationed at O'Hare Airport, Uribe used his badge and firearm to coerce victims into sexual acts or to demand cash in locations including Schaumburg and Naperville. He faces 10 counts of deprivation of civil rights under color of law and one count of brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. If convicted, he faces a minimum of seven years in prison and up to life imprisonment.

Defense attorney Michael Clancy has contested the charges, arguing that Uribe was not a predator but rather a “perfect mark” for a prostitution ring allegedly controlled by a boss in China. The defense claims the women involved were part of an organized group that targeted Uribe after he disclosed his position with the Department of Homeland Security. The prosecution maintains that evidence, including DNA and digital records, places Uribe at the scenes of the alleged crimes.
