CBRNe4rail project enhances European railway station security

The CBRNe4rail project is working to enhance the security of European railway stations by improving the management of incidents involving chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear, or explosive agents. The initiative involves twelve partners from six European countries, including ENEA.

To address the challenges of protecting crowded and open critical infrastructures, the project focuses on updating training for railway operators through emerging technologies and innovative teaching methodologies. A unique aspect of the project is the inclusion of non-specialized personnel, or ‘zero responders,’ in training programs to assist during the initial stages of a crisis. Preparations are underway for five exercises to be conducted at various European stations.
