CBS News' 60 Minutes adds Ross Douthat and Norah O'Donnell as correspondents

CBS News announced a major staffing refresh for its flagship newsmagazine 60 Minutes ahead of the 59th season. Executive producer Nick Bilton, appointed by CBS News editor‑in‑chief Bari Weiss, revealed that New York Times columnist Ross Douthat will join as a full‑time correspondent, describing him as “one of the preeminent public intellectuals in America today, a thinker of uncommon rigor and a journalist of deep empathy.” Former CBS Evening News anchor Norah O'Donnell was also promoted to correspondent, with Bilton calling her “a powerhouse.” The additions are joined by contributors author Sebastian Junger, former Vice News reporter Gianna Toboni and British broadcaster Trevor Phillips. The hires come after a sweeping overhaul that saw longtime correspondents Sharyn Alfonsi, Cecilia Vega, Scott Pelley and executive producer Tanya Simon dismissed. CBS executives say the new lineup will modernize the program while preserving its tradition of fearless, independent reporting. The 59th season launches on September 13.
