CBS News denies reports of Lesley Stahl nearly resigning
CBS News has dismissed reports that '60 Minutes' correspondent Lesley Stahl nearly resigned following a dispute over a report regarding Israeli settlers and Palestinians in the West Bank. A spokesperson for the newsmagazine characterized the claims as a “ludicrous, twisted narrative,” asserting that the segment in question received fewer edits than most.
The controversy stems from the production of the “Lost Sheep” report, which aired on October 11, 2026. Reports suggested that the review process became “extraordinarily contentious” after CBS News Editor-in-Chief Bari Weiss and managing editor Charles Forelle became involved in the screenings. While some insiders claimed Stahl engaged in an aggressive back-and-forth regarding the broadcast date, CBS maintains that Stahl never formally threatened to resign and did not communicate such intentions to leadership.
These tensions follow a period of significant restructuring at '60 Minutes' during the summer, which included the dismissal of several notable staff members, a period referred to by some as “Black Thursday.”
