CBS Sports reshuffles NFL broadcast teams following Tony Romo leave

CBS Sports has restructured its NFL broadcast teams following the indefinite leave of lead analyst Tony Romo. Romo was placed on leave after an arrest in Milwaukee on suspicion of operating a vehicle while intoxicated, an incident involving charges of unsafe passing and possession of an open container. Romo has since stated he will plead no contest to the charges and has discussed his struggles with alcohol and painkiller dependence related to chronic back injuries.

In the interim, J. J. Watt has been promoted to the network’s top broadcast team, working alongside play-by-play announcer Ian Eagle, Jim Nantz, and sideline reporter Tracy Wolfson. Watt is scheduled to participate in high-profile matchups, including the Dallas Cowboys versus Baltimore Ravens game in Rio de Janeiro.

Ross Tucker has stepped into the No. 2 booth previously occupied by Watt. Tucker made his debut alongside Ian Eagle during the Bills-Texans game. While Romo’s long-term future with the network remains uncertain, CBS has proceeded with its seasonal broadcast assignments using Watt and Tucker to fill the vacancies.
