CBS Sports updates NFL broadcast lineup with Russell Wilson and J. J. Watt

CBS Sports is undergoing significant personnel changes for its NFL coverage. Former Super Bowl-winning quarterback Russell Wilson has joined ‘The NFL Today’ following his retirement from the NFL in June. Lead play-by-play announcer Jim Nantz praised Wilson as a ‘class act’ and a ‘great addition’ to the network during the 2026 CBS Sports NFL seminar in New York.

Nantz also expressed confidence in new addition Kyle Long, describing him as a ‘natural-born communicator.’ These changes follow the indefinite leave of absence of Tony Romo, who was placed on leave by the network in July following an arrest on suspicion of operating a vehicle while under the influence. While Nantz declined to comment on the specifics of the arrest, he offered support to Romo, calling him a ‘great friend.’

In the wake of Romo’s absence, J. J. Watt is expected to play a prominent role in the booth. Nantz lauded Watt as a ‘very, very talented communicator,’ noting his leadership qualities and previous accolades such as the Walter Payton Man of the Year Award.
