CBS Studios moves to dismiss ‘Matlock’ writer's discrimination lawsuit

CBS Studios has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit brought by former ‘Matlock’ writer John Lowe, who alleges he was subjected to a hostile work environment involving racist and sexist conduct.

Lowe’s complaint names showrunner Jennie Snyder Urman and executive producers Nicki Renna and Jeffrey Lieber, accusing them of making racially stereotyped comments and engaging in sexual harassment. Lowe further claims he was terminated in retaliation for reporting these incidents.

In a statement, a CBS Studios spokesperson described the allegations as ‘demonstrably inaccurate and maliciously fabricated,’ asserting that the studio stands firmly behind its producers. The studio noted that following an internal investigation, they are confident the claims are baseless and harmful to those wrongly accused.
