CBS to air two MTV VMA retrospective specials in September

CBS will air two primetime specials in September to build anticipation for the 2026 MTV Video Music Awards. The specials will look back at significant moments from the awards show’s 42-year history.

The first special, ‘Best of VMAs: Iconic Vanguard Performances’, will air on Sunday, September 13. Hosted by Donnie Wahlberg, it will focus on Video Vanguard honorees and their career-defining performances. The program is scheduled to stream live on Paramount+ for Premium subscribers.

The second special, ‘Best of VMAs: Unforgettable Moments’, is set for Sunday, September 20. Hosted by Vanessa Lachey, this retrospective will highlight unpredictable moments, including bold fashion choices and controversial performances. Both specials will be available on CBS and via Paramount+.
