CBSE hosts Talkathon to combat drug abuse among students
The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) organized a virtual Talkathon titled ‘Nasha Mukt Yuva for Viksit Bharat’ to address the rising challenge of drug abuse among students. The initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for a drug-free India.
During the interactive session, experts including Professor Nand Kumar from AIIMS New Delhi and Anish C, Additional Director of the Narcotics Control Bureau, addressed students and educators. Professor Kumar explained how substances hijack the brain’s reward circuit, leading to dependence and diminishing the ability to experience everyday joys. He specifically debunked myths that occasional use is harmless or that drugs improve concentration.
Anish C warned students about the role of social media in normalizing drug use and cautioned against suspicious online messages or unknown packages that could serve as entry points for trafficking networks. The program also covered topics such as peer pressure, mental health, and the importance of seeking professional support for addiction symptoms like changes in sleep or mood.
