CBTis 119 to implement mandatory socioemotional education program

CBTis 119 in Cd. Victoria, Tamaulipas, will implement a mandatory socioemotional education program starting in the 2026-2027 school year. The initiative, known as the ‘ABC de las Emociones’ program, is driven by the Secretaría de Educación Pública (SEP).

Director Heberto Guadalupe Huerta Bermúdez noted that while some students have shown resistance to these activities, viewing them as less formal than subjects like mathematics, the program aims to address issues such as anxiety and depression. The school has already operated a socioemotional attention unit for two years, serving between 40 and 50 students.

To support the rollout, tutors will receive federal workbooks and undergo training to facilitate group activities in the classroom. The school aims to ensure that emotional well-being supports academic performance. In severe cases, students are referred to specialized institutions like the Centro de Integración Juvenil. CBTis 119 currently serves a student body of approximately 2,200.
