Mexico’s CBTIS 289 High School Marks First Cycle as National Health‑Education Model
The Centro de Bachillerato Tecnológico Industrial y de Servicios (CBTIS) 289 in Tecámac, State of Mexico, completed its inaugural 2025‑2026 school year with 537 students enrolled in health‑focused technical tracks such as General Nursing, Clinical Laboratory, Radiology, Dental Prosthetics and Dental Assistance. Secretary of Public Education Mario Delgado Carrillo highlighted the campus as the country’s first high school specialized in health, featuring new‑generation infrastructure and integration into the Mi Derecho, Mi Lugar platform that aims to bring schools closer to students’ homes.
Director Jorge Leonardo Villanueva announced that an evening shift will open for the 2026‑2027 cycle, expanding capacity to serve more than 900 students and introducing a Technical program in Medical Emergencies and Risk Management. The school is part of the National Baccalaureate system’s recent expansion of 31 new campuses, intended to create 156,240 new learning spaces nationwide.
