CCBB Rio hosts free Central American cinema showcase

The Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil (CCBB) in Rio de Janeiro is hosting ‘Soy Loco por Ti, Centroamérica’, a free film showcase featuring 21 works from Central American filmmakers. The program includes 16 feature films and five short films from Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and Panama.

Curated by Honduran-Brazilian filmmaker Laura Bermúdez, the selection aims to introduce Brazilian audiences to a vital and diverse cinematic landscape that remains largely unrepresented in the country's commercial circuits. The films cover themes such as migration, indigenous memory, sexuality, LGBTQIA+ identity, and environmental preservation.

The showcase opens with the Costa Rican film ‘Tengo sueños eléctricos’ by Valentina Maurel. Other featured works include ‘Todos los peces’ from El Salvador and the Panamanian documentary ‘Bila Burba’. Following the Rio de Janeiro exhibition, the showcase is scheduled to move to CCBB São Paulo and Brasília in April 2027.
