Cáceres hosts fourth Festival de los Castillos theater event
The fourth edition of the Festival de los Castillos will take place from September 19 to October 17 in the province of Cáceres, Spain. The event utilizes five historical fortresses—Montánchez, Valencia de Alcántara, Portezuelo, Trevejo, and Mirabel—as open-air theatrical stages.
Organized by the Diputación de Cáceres, the festival aims to connect heritage conservation with tourism and local economies. Artistic director Javier Uriarte noted that the experience often integrates the natural environment and the walk to the monuments into the performance itself. The festival features local theater companies and attracts visitors from surrounding regions, including Madrid and Salamanca. Due to the nature of the historical sites, seating capacity is limited, with Montánchez and Valencia de Alcántara accommodating approximately 200 spectators each.
