Led by Senate President Paulina Núñez, the legislators responded to recent ambiguous statements from Argentine authorities regarding the region's status. The Senate emphasized that the Strait is under the absolute administration and protection of the Chilean state, in accordance with the 1881 Boundary Treaty and the 1984 Treaty of Peace and Friendship.

To ensure long-term security, the Senate plans to advocate for increased strategic capabilities for surveillance and protection of sovereign spaces within the 2027 National Budget. The declaration also underscored the right of Magallanes residents to engage in free and uninterrupted maritime commerce, as established by existing international treaties and the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea.
