CCIA and partners file amicus brief on AI copyright fair use
The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA), alongside NetChoice and A.I. Progress, has filed an amicus brief in the Mosaic LLM Litigation. The brief asks the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California to rule that training generative artificial intelligence models on copyrighted material constitutes lawful fair use.
The filing argues that such training is highly transformative, as it uses copyrighted works to identify patterns and develop new technological tools. The proponents contend that copyright law is intended to promote scientific and useful progress rather than to protect existing business models from competition.
